OOOhh, I have to second that overheat thing!!! Last summer when we had our first Polish (she decided to go see what the dogs were doing--jumped a fence and found out dogs like chickens in not the right way), but I had to put out ice bottles and electrolytes in her water or else she seemed out of sorts and almost listless.

-I HEAR roos are aggressive. Not sure if that's true or not.

My polish bantam roo is really, really sweet.

The only thing I could fault him for is being chicken-hearted. When something scares the flock, he is always the first and the fastest to run away. Biggest little chicken I ever saw.

im getting a gold laced polish this febuary

Erin: I know. They're so hard to care for, very needy. I almost had a heart-attack recently because my girl's crop was sticking out. I thought she had sour crop but found out on a site that it's typically to have a large crop by the end of a winter's day. It's apparently good, and means that the bird has eaten well for the day. Nothing has happened, so now I'm just keeping an eye out.

BeardedChick: Hah! Thanks for proving me wrong. Someday I'd like to have one big Polish flock and that would mean a rooster. I had a Sultan roo who recently passed away, and he was a big chicken, too. His step-son grew dominant over him and chased him under a wheel-barrow. I had to go save him and it took him forever to stop shaking. I had to hold him and tell him everything's going to be alright. I miss him loads.

Have you tried the 'Selling chicken Eggs' section of the forum?

It's so much easier to sex them than other breeds, too. I tend to find out who are the boys and who are the girls weeks before the other breeds.

The two I had both turned out to be roos. They were sweet but NEVER EVER stopped crowing. EVER.
They were afraid of my hens and wouldn't go into the coop so I had to catch them every night to lock them up safely.
