Plum Trees Not Blooming?

Ok, so I got these plum trees last season and planted them. Far as growth goes they're doing really well and are full and green. They did not bloom last year nor this year however and I'm not sure why.

Granted, we had the ice storm come through, but that was before anything even thought of pushing our leaves.

Everything else (besides the apple trees) did great this year and bloomed really well. The [mature] apple trees had about 25% of their normal blooms.

Just wondering if something's off.. If you look at my coop thread, one of the plums is right beside the coop.

Have you ever had chocolate mint jelly? Oooohhh... So good..

Makes great jelly.. Also did standard mint as well as lemon balm jelly... Good stuff..

Is it possible that you had an unusually extra cold snap (we certainly did here!) that exceeded the bud-hardiness of the plum, with or without windchill?

My cherry bushes that normally bloom all over are only blooming this year on the portions that were covered by snow when we had the deep freeze.

I'm in KY also....I planted 6 muscadines in the fall.....all dead
so called the orchard I now have to dig them up and ship back. But they are supposed to replace free of charge this fall. I would give them some more time. It may take a good two years to see some good blooms

Plum trees are usually one of the first fruit trees to bloom. They bloom before they leaf out. Did you experience any freezes in the week or two prior to noticing the leaves?

If you just planted them last year, it's possible they're just not mature enough yet. When I got some to plant this year, I was told that it would very likely be two + years before they produced much fruit.

What kind of plums? I have French prune and damsons planted last season and got one teeny little depressing lonely flower on them. Meanwhile the nectarine, peaches and apricots flowered nicely--I suspect plums are just slow to take off. Be patient for another year or three...
