Very very cold rain (with the possibility of snow) tonight and tomorrow here in SW Missouri. I am about 45 mi north of Joplin, and the forecast is 80% chance of precipitation. HOWEVER, the next day it is to get up to near 60*.
Soon to be a Pymouth Rock only back yarder so have been reading this thread (up to p. 65). Yeah, I could'nt resist Halo's BBS Rocks and will have her eggs in the bator next week. To allieve my OCD's and anticipation I've been internet jocking. Came across a free PDF book of the 1915 Plymouth Rock standard and breed by American Poultry Assoc; Smith, Arther Carlton. http://www.archive.org/details/plymouthrockstan00amerrich
It's 448 pages full of origins, standards, variety specific evaluations, prints, etc.
The Standard starts p. 108 (p. 112 of the PDF file).
I have Barred Rocks. I have one special one. I call her Bernice, or Bernie for short. She is one of the few hens that survived the dog attack. She follows me everywhere I go, she even comes up to the door and knocks with her beak wanting us to come outside.
Ok folks....sorry I havent been here in a while. Been "job huntin" and raising chicks. Right now I have 20 little Col Rock chicks on the ground (ranging from 2 to 8 weeks old).
The trio I got from Canada is approx 1 yr old now (part were born March 2010, part April 2010....just dont remember which)
Here are a few pix of the 3 now that they have grown a bit.
