Plymouth Rock thread!

Yard full o' rocks :

Ok folks....sorry I havent been here in a while. Been "job huntin" and raising chicks. Right now I have 20 little Col Rock chicks on the ground (ranging from 2 to 8 weeks old).

The trio I got from Canada is approx 1 yr old now (part were born March 2010, part April 2010....just dont remember which)

Here are a few pix of the 3 now that they have grown a bit.

I have a trio of Barred Rock Bantams that came from Dick Horstman's line. One of the hen's took Best SCCL Junior last year at a show. I was hoping to get busy this year hatching chicks, but I'm having fertility problems. It's weird... I had two Orp bantams in with my BR rooster and his two BR hens. I put a bunch of eggs in the bator from all the hens and only the Orp eggs developed. Maybe I have a rooster that prefers the fat, fluffy girls?

We haven't shown yet, but are planning to take some to a show soon. These are 2nd generation from bantam white plymouth rocks we got from Dick Horstman's eggs a couple years ago. Anyone looking for a cockerel, I have an extra!

I'm going to my first chicken show (where I actually entered birds) on Sat in Monroe, WA. Are any rock folks going to be there that live around Olympia? I really hope to meet some serious rock breeders while there (partridge, barred and blue). Please feel free to come up and say howdy, I'm the tall, "big boned" dark haired lady with a cane and shorts on (ALWAYS!). Black directors chair with writing all over the back. Hope to meet you there! (I'm looking to buy some chicks...)

There should be one Rock fellow there Jim Volk who he and I grew up togeather. He has Large Whites.

Not many large fowl any where in the country right now need good breeders who will stick with them. Barred Rock large fowl is on fire with the introduction of the Frank Reese line. We have some nice Columbians in Georgia that came out of Canada.

I have White Rock Bantams that I have had for about 8 years. All the bantams that you get are pretty much breed to standard. Large fowl its mostly production that you get unless from one of a handful of breeders.

You will enjoy the show Jim is about 67, six feet tall use to have blood currly hair and a deep voice. There should be others there but I dont know who they will be.

Its one of the major shows in Wash and Oregon. I use to live in Centralia which produced about five good chicken guys in the 1960s. bob

Bob my barred rocks are definatly not good. But the one Bird on my yard I will stand over and represent as Good stock is my Plymouth White rocks from twisted feather farms Terry Britt and Steve Jones strain. theres a few of us that still breed good birds. I just seem to get swindled everytime I buy PBR hatching eggs. this is the second set of eggs I have raised and had to cull. with no good offspring.
