Plymouth Rock thread!

Thanks for the info, I'll look for him. Well, I'm pretty dedicated once I get going on something. My heart lies with OEG and American (LF) but I'd sure like to have some show quality barred or partridge to mess with. I've devoted all my time to dogs for the past four decades, and am disabled now so putting all that passion into the birds (easier to handle).

Thanks again.

Our two new br pullets: They are about 5-6 months old. Do you think they look close to laying?

Here's my BR Penelope. I made SURE to get a BR just so that it would be MY chicken

I'd say it should be soon, babyrlc - nice red face. And I love the second picture, hokankai - she looks like she is posing!

Barred Rocks are so clever. I always throw scratch over the top of the run area when I leave in the morning. The run area often has leaves/ small branches on it that the scratch catches on. The other day I threw the scratch during the day because I couldn't let them out to free range due to a large swarm of bees. As I worked around the yard I kept hearing a 'thunk' noise. I looked over at the coop and my Barred Rock, Ebony, is knocking her head against the top of the run to jar the caught scratch loose so it falls into the run where she can get to it. She cracks me up!

This chick is a girl...right? I got her and two SLW chicks from the feed store Wednesday morning. They're from Dunlap Hatchery in Idaho. I think I remember that the BRs are sex-linked, so this "should" be a pullet....but I just can't shake the feeling that I ended up with a "not a pullet", lol.

Obviously, the BR has her back to the camera... The spot on her head looked a bit more defined yestersay, but I can't get any of them to sit still long enough for a clear picture!

I can't tell by that picture. Can you get a better picture? Look at her legs, also.

Best pic I have of her...

And I got legs!

She's the only one of the three of them that didn't freak out when I tipped her on her back...

Oh, finally! A simple, easy to understand page of info! Thanks! I figured I had gotten myself confused with looking at all the different info in the last few months while I waited on the gals to arrive! Now I can sit back and live happily while I wait for eggs, lol.

"Gerty" has the darker legs...and a spot on her head just like the "hard to read" chick on the right of the head picture of the girls. They mentioned beak coloring but didn't go into it...sounds interesting...I may have to do a bit more research on that. But, in the mean time, I'm saving that page to my favorites folder!
