I have Columbian bantams, and my friends do too. but they have been hatching for 3 years and had good hatching with good color. but this year... one cockerel hatched out Barred Columbian. Like a Delaware. hes really got good patterning too.

Scott, your BRs are just beautiful!

I haven't been in this thread in a bit, but have been looking at BRs and noticing it seems like some lines tend to have closer barring (thinner) while others tend to have thicker barring; is there a trend here? What is the preference (if any) of judges?

Wynette,
I might need to be corrected, but I believe the narrower barring is from slower feathering lines, and prefered by most because it is crisper, therefore has sharper contrast. The Barred Rocks I recently was able to get came from the old E.B.Thompson line and take forever to feather out. Looking forward to crossing mine with some Silver Penciled Rocks my wife ordered today. I'm going to stay away from the auction pages for the rest of the year thank you all the same! Love them though. .....stan

Question
What do your eggs look like? I only have one BR and she lays narrow light brown eggs kinda on the medium almost small side. I love her she is super calm and fiendly and i'd like to breed her but wouldn't her offspring lay the same size egg?
