I'm sorry, Cheryl. "Argue" was a bad choice of words. Should have said "debate".

There is really nothing more stunning than a gorgeous typey BR rooster, IMO. Total eye candy!

However, the first BR rooster I ever had, the one I'll never forget, was a malnourished, battle-scarred BR rooster from McMurray I bought from an FFA kid, complete with lice and favus, my Hawkeye. No matter what a breeder might think of him, he was beautiful to me and the reason I always want to have a BR rooster in my flock.

Terry's birds were at Crossroads. He has sold so many that his birds are everywhere...even in my back yard!

Yep, those were the line I was referring to in the Whites. They are huge, rivaling good Jersey Giants, for goodness' sake!

I wonder why folks have gotten to where they feel bigger is better? (no comments from the peanut gallery!)

I mentioned it before, I saw some lovely banty silver penciled rocks at Crossroads. I have to say, the one that took BV was beautiful in type. It just made me sigh, she was so lovely. It also makes me wonder...is it easier to get correct type in a smaller bird/Bantam variety? I dunno...just wondering here!

I must agree that the White Rocks that I HAVE SEEN at shows are much too large compared to the standard. HOWEVER, that also seems to be what draws the judges to them for some reason

I would LOVE to get some hatching eggs(or pullets) from Terry to cross onto my Columbian Rocks to improve the type (especially on my males, as they dont have enough chest)

Jim - do you have a way to get in touch with him? I've tried emailing and have gotten no response

It's nothing but a "backyard hobby" and "adult science experiment" for me.....I love to see what gains I make each year and enjoy a glass of wine and watching them run around in the clover field

If they are close to SOP....thats good too

Wynette, as far as showing, do they weigh the birds? I don't think they do, but I don't go to shows. Only been to one years ago and it was a bantam show. Because there are weights in the standards for the birds. If they don't weigh them, how do they know if they are correct for their standard? There is such a thing as too big.


A second BR pullet began laying today of my trio of BR girls, FINALLY! They'll be 31 weeks Wednesday.

No, they don't weight them - they used to years ago, I'm told, but they don't now. I am unsure why. Maybe one of our judge/members could pop in? I'll PM Walt to see if he can pop in & comment on this.

Over or under weight would not be a DQ, but it would result in points taken off - I don't have my SOP here, but I believe it's a number of points per pound over or under, with the first pound being not faulted, if I recall correctly.
