Plymouth Rock thread!

Interesting project. I am trying to breed blue rocks also, but not so much the cockerels, just the laced pullets. I have a cockerel that I grew up just to see the color, and he is a lot lighter than yours. I also have a non barred blue boy that is the darker blue that yous is. Is there a different gene for the light and dark blue?? I thought it was a non black gene that made blue, and 2 non balck that made splash. .........stan

One copy of the blue gene in a black bird makes it blue. Two copies makes it splash, ergo, all blue and splash birds are genetically black with the blue gene lightening them up. No, there is not a different gene for different shade of blue; seems to be just how it plays out in a certain bird. Sometimes, a black x blue which produces blues will produce darker blues than a blue that comes from a blue x splash or a blue x blue mating.

It does have some dark on the front. All of my barred rock cockerels have solid yellow legs at that point and the barring is lighter and wider apart.

Pullets have way more usually. I have roos with black spots just not a wash down the leg. The more black the better odds of a pullet. I don't just go by the leg color but I start there.
