Plymouth Rock thread!

Is there anyway to sex these columbian rocks yet?

Ashley

Although not 100%, I find that the males are the ones with tails that are tightly "bunched up"....kinda like where the rubber band is in a ladies hair who is wearing a ponytail (if that makes sense)....my "descriptive" abilities are limited (too much engineer, not enough creativeness)

Hope that helps

It does look like you have some with very nice wing color, too early to tell on the rest. Darn things take FOREVER to feather out

Those look girly to me, though I don't have any CRs myself.

Here is my Wynette, sitting pretty. I love this girl in particular. She has such a sweet personality. She is the smaller of the three pullets, though definitely not small. I seriously wish I had a scale to weigh Ida and Dottie with, especially Ida. I bet she is almost 8 lb. She's one hefty woman.

I got some pics of my project Blue Barred Rocks. This is the only guy with barring on his body and not just the hackles and saddles. They need work so we will see what I get next. Ignore the little barred EE

Interesting project. I am trying to breed blue rocks also, but not so much the cockerels, just the laced pullets. I have a cockerel that I grew up just to see the color, and he is a lot lighter than yours. I also have a non barred blue boy that is the darker blue that yous is. Is there a different gene for the light and dark blue?? I thought it was a non black gene that made blue, and 2 non balck that made splash. .........stan

I plan to have both blue and blue barred pens. I think the rock!!!! lol. My boy is under Flo. lights so not the best. Blue can come in all shades. I have heard the best come from splash to blacks but IDK yet. I am getting some hatching eggs at Newnan... You going? Want to bring me some eggs too? or a Solid blue roo of any age?

I wish I was going to Newnan, but my vacation did not hit it this year. I would love to bring you some eggs IF I HAD ANY FERTILE ONES!!! I have a young splash cockerel over very nice barred pullets to get blue sex links. Blue pullets and blue barred cockerels. He just hasn't figured it out yet, or maybe he don't like girls, but so far, I haven't gotten any fertile eggs. .......stan

I vote roo. Let me tell you why... Leg color, pullet usually have a black wash down the leg, roos don't have as much black. Second the color in the comb and wattles. Third I have about 30 in my shop right now..... KIDDING! just 10 rocks anyway...
