Plymouth Rock thread!

Please continue to be patient, and yeah, I know it is hard. For quick eggs? Sexlinks! LOL.
These GS pullets are now 28 weeks and they don't look particularly ready, do they. Slow food is quality food, at least that's what they say.

I know, I keep telling myself that, but my mommy told me I have selective hearing

Wow, 28 weeks? Only one of my girls looks like the one on the left, the other 5 now have big red wattles, but their comb is not super big, just really red! I know it will be any day/week.........

I do, I sit and watch them, I still love the Roosters. They are like gentle giants.

Well my GSBR roo IS doing his job. Candled the eggs from the pullet he was with and they are developing. Going to put a Blue Barred Rock hen with him tomorrow. BEFORE she starts to molt too

By the time she starts to molt MAYBE my new pullets will be laying.

I also have another Rock Project and those eggs look to be developing too

Like I need more projects

is the barred rock small for 13.5 weeks? (pullet) I have seen some pullets at almost 13 weeks and they are HUGE! like MUCH bigger than my BR pullet, I will get updated pics of her tomorrow.

Hi all, these are some of my 8 sppr pullets. No eggs yet, but I have started to feed them laying mash. Notice the black (dark grey) wing feathers in the last pic. Are these dark wing feathers a non-conformance for the breed? Some of these dark feathers showed up in last year's pullets too. (I no longer have those birds.) I plan to keep these 8 pullets and breed them next spring.

Most of my 2012 cockerals have brown "smut" on their wings; they are going to go into the freezer later this month. Should I be breeding to the largest rooster, or to the most stylish?

Your suggestions on breeding spprs would be appreciated. Thank you.

The black feathers you asked about in the last picture is most likely a split and twisted wing. Open the wing feathers and see if the black primary feathers stay inside or outside the secondary feathers. They should go inside the secondary feathers if not split and twisted. If it is split and twisted you would not want to breed if you are breeding to the sop as it will breed forward.
