Plymouth Rock thread!

Do you know whether these birds are from the Frank Reese, Good Shepherd line?
They look as if they may be. Maybe Marvin Stuekel's line, but to my eye, they look a bit more like a Reese bird.

They are excellent examples of a pair. Nice birds, good conformation. The pullet's head is not the best. We struggle with this as well. Not all the pullets have a dignified head, but we'll work on that going forward, in the out years. That cockerel is too young to judge yet. They take 13 months before they show what they have. He's a looker though. I like his flat back and his good breast. Watch out for high held tails, if you get tails. Some of these rocks need tail work, for sure. Photos are deceiving but they look very, very good. A great start.

In my opinion, you have happened across some birds that will be the envy of a lot of people. There are always floks looking for birds of that quality, particullary the hen. Excellant table birds too, but it will take some time to grow them out. The old timey heritage birds that they appear to be are notioriously slow to mature......stan
I just bought this pair from a local breeder. They are this year's birds, so still young. Comments are encouraged please. The boy is a little washed out because of the flash. They are in quarantine right now, and its snowing, hence the dungeon appearance.
I don't know much about this breed. My gramp had these and some banties and RIR but everything else I see around here is industrial. I keep other birds that are pure and might stay with these a while. I wondered if anyone could speak on their table qualities. I have here other birds that are stated to be delicious: Marans, Orp, Delaware, Dorking, Midget Whites. I like that the BR are sex linked but could definitely use some cliff notes to decide if these are the zippers for me. I had considered Dominiques because I am not a single comb fan but these were in my path.

Wow, what good questions. I will pay attention here. What does a dignified head look like? Picture? The only thing I know is the boy's comb doesn't have 5 points.

They came from a breeder/judge here. You might die to know I bought them by accident and only for 10$. It was a real story. I was at a bird fancier's club meeting and they hold an auction at the end. These were the first item. I was only a guest and no one opened with bids so I did. It became the only bid. I feel a bit badly now about that because when I learned more about them they were certainly worth more. I worried that the donator was insulted. A newbie got his nice birds for cheap, you know?

I have other heritage birds. 13 mos. Good to have a number. Thank you. I will post more pics and look at them more as we go

I'm incredibly jealous. We we're looking for heritage quality Barred Rocks all summer from Vermont and New Hampshire to no avail. Not sure what the white streaking is on the pullets hackles but over all great looking birds. Her comb is nice and short and both their legs are a nice yellow.

If you come to one of the Central Maine Bird Fancier shows at Windsor Fair Grounds you are likely to find some lovely LF and lots of Bantam heritage fowl. The banties that auctioned after mine were gorgeous! If you are seriously looking I would think coming up here would be the way to go but there must be people more southerly as well.

here is my wpr breeder this year. gonna focus on gettin the lift in te tail. looks small but he weighs right at 9lbs

I have been asking and all I know right now is that 7&8 in here has the same line and I have no way yet to get in touch with the seller, Eric. I will keep trying. I didn't want you to think I had ignored this question.
