shes a shy girl and doesnt like to take pictures much.

love her feathers! What you all thunk? How old do you estimate?

Hi Peneliva
Very nice looking SPPR. My chicks are 9 weeks old today and she looks very close to the same age as mine. So I think she is around 9 weeks old. I will try and post a few pictures of mine later today.

Sounds great, very happy to hear that you have made plans to getting your line to the Standard size. Yes I have read that most if not all the Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks of today are on the smaller size including my Dick Hostman line. But like you I am in it for the long haul and if breeding these takes many years to get my Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks to the Standard of Perfection is what it takes then so be it. I am looking forward to breeding this breed for years to come and some day I hope to see you in the future at one of the larger poultry shows so we can compare years of breeding notes.

Interesting to hear as I have gotten bantam barred rocks and standard spr chicks from Horstman they are 6-7 weeks old and I the bantams are actually bigger are more feathered than the spr's. The bantams were a week older when he shipped them but the size difference is still striking.

Hi 4Hgirl
Please post pictures of your Plymouth Rock chicks. I would like to see them.

Commenting so that I can connect with this informative thread. Was intrigued with Barred Rocks and got my first two 11 weeks ago. Learned yesterday that one of my Buff Orpingtons isn't - she's a Buff Rock. The yellow legs was the give-away.

Have been enjoying the antics of our barred rocks. They're the most inquisitive and brightest of our 6 new chicks. Very personable. My DH say's they remind him of the comedians "Laurel and Hardy" so . . . guess what we've named them? I had wondered about the Buff Rock as she was so much more inquisitive and playful than her Buff Orpington sister. I wasn't surprised at all to find out that she wasn't an Orpington but was a Rock instead.

Interesting info here. Hope you don't mind if I lurk.

Jessica is 8 months now and an excellent egg layer. This photo is with Betty and Boops 2yrs old Plymouth Barred Rocks..The two.Light Brahams are LaLa and ChaCha they are Jessica's housemates..

Hi All
I got me a small kitchen scale tonight. Tomorrow I will start keeping a record of the weight of each chick. Just to let everyone know the weight I get tomorrow is just for record keeping. I do plan to cull for weight in a few months after they fill out a little more.
Next year I plan to hatch as many chicks as possible and the scales will play a very big part in the culling process.
