Plymouth Rock thread!

Amen, Fred! You summed it up perfectly!

Yeah, color is just personal preference, and you probably think I'm nuts for saying I don't care for white birds since I own Delawares, though they aren't solid white chickens. You'd think my Delawares are sometimes red chickens for all the time they spend dustbathing in this red Georgia clay, lol! I did have a Lt. Brahma once, but that is as white as I want to go, generally. My usual preference in color for any breed of chicken is blue, but BRs are my first love.

ETA: I didn't look close enough at Bleenie's two hens. Now I see the smut on the one after Fred mentioned the different DNA. That one has something else in there somewhere. Glad you're enjoying them, Bleenie!

Blues are my favorite too!

I'm really enjoying my new BR, Frances. I'm also enjoying my RIRs. So what is it about the Rock breeds that everyone loves so much? Why do you guys pick these guys? I'd love to know what it is about them that draws you to them.

History, Beauty, Temperament, Vigor and Dual Purpose birds...that's for the Rocks bred to standard by breeders as opposed to those from hatcheries/feed stores.

I'm new to chickens, so you'll have to forgive me. I know with my RIR they are probably just production reds, how can you tell with an adult BR if they are bred by breeders or from hatcheries/feed stores? My girl is about two and although I don't really care where she came from, I would like to be able to tell if there is a way.

I'll admit it... I chose her for her color! The black and white is just so striking! I did do a little research on temperament, and egg laying abilities, but mostly for color :)

I've only had her a week, so I don't have many (or good) pictures of her. I can post more later. From what I read I really like the temperament they are suppose to have, and their hardiness. This girl is really sweet. She comes over to me and clucks softly. She isn't big on being pet or otherwise touched, but she does like attention and to be close to me. She also likes my green peppers and has eaten all of them off my plant.
