Plymouth Rock thread!

BGMatt

Wynette (BYC moderator here) has some of the best I've seen....unfortunately she is in Michigan, not the NW, but she is working diligently on them, and has some breeding plans in place to make some very big steps especially in size.  If yours came from Diefly Ranch, I "bet" those originated with Cheryl Cohen, who got a large part of her start from Wynette

Probably more  than you asked for....but there ya go

Mine did not come from DieFly, just saw them when I was listing some stuff on eBay, checked their website out is only place I've heard of them. Some eggs that I bought hoping to introduce new blood did, but like I said, might as well burned the money.

I will send a PM to Wynette. I appreciate the lead. My originals came from Larry Urban, not sure where he got his start.

Wynette recently hatched some from Canadian bloodlines as well.....she is very focused on improving the SPRs and on top of that she is "just a plain nice person"!!!

Have you checked the underside of her feet to make sure it's not Bumblefoot?
I posted this with my phone, but it doesn't seam to have gone through. I hope it doesn't show up twice.

Do barred rocks have a bump on the inside of their middle toe? Frances has one on each foot. Is this a barred rock thing, a chicken thing, or an abnormality?

Bumblefoot is an infection, if she had it the soles of her feet where the lumps are would be red and most time have a black, circular scab.

If they look normal and not red, inflamed/infected then I wouldn't worry much. One of my roo's has a 'knobby' spot on one of his toes, just kinda showed up one day but had been there for a couple years with no problems from it. looks weird but doesn't bother him so I don't bother it.

Anyone have any recommendations for Silver Plymouth Rock breeders? Preferably in the NW? I want to add a second line and bought some eggs from some from someplace called DieFly Ranch in CA but since the eggs have currently been in mail 4+ days that was a horrible experiment.

I'd prefer to not outcross to another color, but may end up doing just that.

Yes this.

It can happen on the sides of the feet as well.

I've only just begun in my chicken raising. I ordered (and received) 3 EE's, 1 Barred Rock, and 1 RIR. My RIR didn't make the first 24hrs after shipment :( but my EE's, and "Roxie" my Barred Rock is doing great! They are 17 days old now. In the beginning I thought Roxie would be the dominant one. She was the fastest and most active one in the bunch. But now she has assumed her roll as the submissive. When the others flap their wings and come at her, she lowers her head, and leans in at breast level of the others. They don't let her anywhere near my finger with yogurt on it, but will allow her to eat it from there beaks. But boy put some mealworms in there and she gobbles them up before they can even get one! lol
She is my most friendliest baby though. All I have to do is put my hand in and she comes running! Then climbs right up. I can pick her up at any time and she never fights me. My EE's on the other hand, sqwack and screech in protest. I can't wait to see her fully feathered out!
This is Roxie, with one of my EE's
