Plymouth Rock thread!

I waited on the Partridge and the penciling on them is getting so beautiful now even the butt fluff is penciled.....and the roo well he is magnificent now I thought I might have picked wrong as I only dispatched the lanky mean one and still have the others but he is very thick and deep front to back nice and wide thru the legs and his color wow I did keep 2 and they are both very nice the other is a bit narrower between the legs and maybe a bit lighter boned but a better comb right now...but I decided not to even think about mixing the two strains I'll stick with the oldest group and pretty soon weigh them and pick everyone's brains for what to do I was thinking they would never look this good. The oldest SPR pullet is very nice deep and full bodied and I thought she was a he so friendly but it looks like funky barring on the wings so it must be a she right? No real comb and she's over 4 weeks....and the one that hatched before yours is looking the same way. At any rate I'm having fun and enjoying all the time I need to spend with them just not very patient on waiting for them to grow up I'm always counting the weeks on my calendar

Boy left, girl right. (at 6 weeks) Mine are now 4 months old and they still don't have their full penciling. But they are still pretty.

I couldn't tell for sure with the PR's until 6 weeks or so-So they are slow to grow a comb? The younger Golden Cuckoo has a larger comb by far or maybe that's just the Marans. It doesn't matter yet I have gotten mostly hens except for the first hatch of Dellies I guess for those I need to wait for later the April hatch was mostly girls. I had to hatch more New Hampshires to get some roos. It must be the shipping girls are tougher

Nice babies there and congrats on hatching. PRs and SP you will Not see full penciling till After first year moult. I have one or two that still have to go threw big moult that still have baby markings and they are just now over a year. This is why they never got real popular you have to wait so long for color and pattern of full adults. For me it does not matter as they are my only breed and I am doing for personal satisfaction. I could care less to sell or not just want to breed better birds. Not even interested in showing so I have no pressure at all on my or my flock to grow up fast for final selction for breeders.

Also, every time the pencileds are partridges molt they get better. Most breeds after a year or two you don't show them any more. And with these two colors the older they are, the better chance you have of winning.

I've been promising pictures I am not very good either I tried to show the colors these look like green and red chickens they just glow but it doesn't show up good at all the rooster is the 2nd choice one the better one is very shy not dominate but a good dancer and treads the hens the other guy makes them yell. Like lots of you I'm still setting up pens and will have some spare roo pens done before winter I hope but for now they get along good enough with the 6 pullets.

Not all of the pullets have good yellow shanks some of them look like they have dirty feet yellow underneath with a dusty wash over them but the deepest bodied pullets have the yellow shanks so those are the ones I'm going to try and breed from. There is no comparison color wise or conformation wise between these and Cackle's. The younger ones might have started out bigger but the shank color is bad and the combs are not very good either and the color is lighter or more yellowish they almost look like my Welsummers....
