Plymouth Rock thread!

This pullet was red carded, meaning 1st place?

She has dainty features and is perfectly lovely. We don't see White Rocks here with quite that look. I'm particularly fond of this bird, nonetheless.
What's wrong about her? Is she too small for a Rock?

Thats crap. She is a bantam. One of the problems with bantams today is they are to big. One thing my friend Matt said about my white rock bantams is he said THEY SURE ARE SMALL.

A bantam is suppose to be a bantam. You all where talking about weights what happpens when your bantam is half a pound or more over weight its no longer a bantam. Big is not always better. I will keep mine small like this little danty girl. bob

Yup. She's one gorgeous, dainty, very, very pretty girl.
I'd like that look on a large fowl pullet as well.

Hi Bob

Yes I know Richard well, his cockerel was second against a light cockerel which is not SOP in the UK.
His pullet won a Reserve card too, on the Rhode Islands he mopped up with several wins for his pullet, cockerel cock and rosecomb cock, so he was a happy bunny with his efforts. We have both decided to really go for the LF barred titles next year, but we both felt the judge favoured the lighter birds which is incorrect over here but overall they judged the classes very well.
The Large Barred pullet and cockerel I put in the wrong pens so they didn't get judged but my spare pullet got a yellow card in third place.

Three cockerels left hand winner (Light) middle disqualified (My bird) right hand second place. Poor picture sorry.

Last years winner pullet from Tom Newbould

Bantam cockerel won in a massive class must have been 40 buffs!

The Plymouth Rock Club have been discussing bantam sizes and type with the aim of getting back to a proper bantam wieght and LF type.
The Buffs are very strong in numbers with the Barreds not far behind.

Three pictures of the top barred cockerels in order

Silver pencilled Plymouth Rocks on Prince Edward Island enjoying the late fall weather

Today, snow - chickens don't wander so far these days.

LOVE it! It was 65 today, tomorrow will be 78...... They actually "made" snow at a shopping center near me, was supposed to be from 12-4, got there at 12:45 and all slush, at least the kids had a little fun LOL!!!

I just bought this pair from a local breeder. They are this year's birds, so still young. Comments are encouraged please. The boy is a little washed out because of the flash. They are in quarantine right now, and its snowing, hence the dungeon appearance.
I don't know much about this breed. My gramp had these and some banties and RIR but everything else I see around here is industrial. I keep other birds that are pure and might stay with these a while. I wondered if anyone could speak on their table qualities. I have here other birds that are stated to be delicious: Marans, Orp, Delaware, Dorking, Midget Whites. I like that the BR are sex linked but could definitely use some cliff notes to decide if these are the zippers for me. I had considered Dominiques because I am not a single comb fan but these were in my path.
