Hello everyone.

I'm new to the forum and have only one little barred rock but it is by far my favorite chick. It has such a friendly personality I defiantly want more!

I think it's around 5 weeks old now (got from a friend, when the chicks were between 1 - 2 weeks old) and is the biggest of my chicks. I am hoping you can answer a few questions for me.

1. Do I have a pullet or a cockerel? I was sure I had a pullet from the color but boy does 'she' have a big comb!

2. When can I expect it to feather up? Most of the other chicks are nearly covered and it's still pretty naked. lol

3. About the barring, is what I see an indication of what I'll end up with or can it get better with age? I thought it would be crisper given how slow it's feathering up. Thought I had a pic of the wing feathering but can't find it, will take one later when I round them up for the night.

2 weeks after I got the chicks (approx 3 weeks old) not a great pic

Sunday, approx 5 weeks old with my SG Dorking cockerel in front (the rock dwarfs him)

With the others, you can clearly see that comb...

Thank you, now off to read more and

over all your beautiful birds.

EDIT: A close look this morning reveals that comb is turning pink, wattles are growing and it's sparing with my little Wellie cockerel.

Sadly is also appears it is more than likely a cross because the barring is even worse than I thought. (forgot the camera, will take a pic) Very disappointing as it was supposed to be from a pure Barred Rock pen.
