Plymouth Rock thread!

hey I'm kind of in that catagory 2

Nice looking fellow and from a great gene pool of Rocks.
You who have this strain are on the right road to making this color pattern worth having. Its a hard color pattern to breed that is why not many of them are alive today. Maybe about a 100 or less alive this time of year. With all of you sharing this very rare large fowl breed more will be around next year. We are trying to improve our numbers of good Plymouth Rocks and our club is leading the way to let folks know they are out there.

You must understand the bantams are so much better than standard large fowl. On this site it is more pro large fowl which is good. If it was not for hobbiest like you these breeds would be worse off than they where a few years ago. Keep sharing and keep posting your pictures it makes it fun to come to this site and visit and learn. Got to work on the Partridge Rocks next year as there is only about three or four breeders have them.

I will try to find the articles on how to breed the different color patterns today on my other computer and then I can email them to you so you will have the secrets of breeding the rare difficult color patterns. These are classic articles and are the key to breeding color on your standard breed Rocks. Remember what I said Standard Breed Rocks as you are breeding for color in a gene pool such as the Silver Penciled shown on this site. Many folks send me pictures of there rocks and I cant really help them as their color is light years away. Even if I had them for twenty years I could not improve them with all the emperience I have learned and have in my head. Just a nice way to tell you breeding for color is a hard job and only a few can do it.

Mr. Sturegeon use to say in his book Many are called but FEW ARE CHOSEN. bob

Wow I love everything you say, I have to say I'm truly blessed to have a good friend like Wynette. Hopefully we can encourage a few more out there to start breeding.

I actually have 8 partridge rock eggs in the bator right now, too!

Well.....here goes!!

I am setting my first set of eggs tomorrow from my Columbian Rocks that came from Canada. I have collected 10 eggs so far and hope to get another 1 or 2 tomorrow. I am hoping that our winter won't be too severe as I have never brooded chicks in the winter before. I have a nice 3' x 5' brooder, enclosed, except for the top. I will place a piece of plexiglass over one end and the heat lamp over the other. I'm guessin' these birds are somewhat accustomed to cold temps so I'm hoping for the best.

Prayin' for good fertility and a great hatch....will keep everyone apprised of how it goes.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year!!!
