Thanks, peeka. I only have a few with these deep yellow legs, and theres a few other things Im working on this year also, but its nice to see I can get these legs this color. Maybe next generation I can get even more.

Tiger Creek what is the source of these Silver Pencilled? Thats pretty good weights. Look forward to the source of the little barred rock bantams. bob

Bob, those Silvers came from Wynette in Michigan, and I thought they grew out nice. I don't have any bantams. My Barred Rocks are from Danny at Good Shepherd Ranch, and they ain't little. It takes them 9 months to get there, but the cockerels are going 10+ pounds on my scale! I don't think I want them much bigger. ..stan

Id love to see a more recent picture of him. That ones is months old, isnt it?

Yes, that pic is 2 1/2 months old, taken mid December. He hasn't grown a lot, but is starting to learn how to do his job.....stan

If you remember some where concern that the Silver Penciled large fowl where not as big as the whites and barreds. I often wonder if in the past if a person crossed a silver pencil led bantam into their large fowl strain to improve color. This would be a reason for the smaller reduced size. However the weights aren't that far off. I would encourage others to take on this train from Michigan and try to work and keep this line going. It will help in five to ten years for others to cross their strain with each other for improved vigor but don't cross this strain with other strains as you will loose color when you cross for size. It is worth it to a degree but you will have a lot of culling to do sometimes when making a cross. Much improvement from last year. Keep up the good work. This is a very pretty bird and I wish you the very best it is a old breed that needs help. bob

Thanks Bob yes the birds are lighter in weight but I'm working now with 3 lines, Wynettes, Hortsman and Danny Padgetts so I hope to see some big improvements this year

One way is to feed your birds Flint River Mills FRM new improved Show Bird pellets. It has marigold extract in it. Its so good I have to wear sun glasses when I look at my White Rock Large Fowl legs. No substitute for genetics but this new feed is a spin off of our FRM Game Bird Pellets which I have used for 20 years. bob

 

[Barred Rocker]

Here they are. These are 4 of the 5 Stukel line Barred Rocks that I hatched from Speckledhen's rocks. The 5th one is still recooperating after I had to help him/her out of the shell and it was touch and go for a few hours since it was so weak but he's a lot livelier now and I think he's going to be alright. I thought I might have a roo in this bunch but now I just can't tell. Anyone's opinion is welcome.

Ben, in the last picture you posted, the one on the far right may be a cockerel. It's hard to say, but it does look like your hatch is pullet-heavy, from the leg color and head spots combined. They are so adorable! Love my Rocks. Wish Dottie's would hatch. This batch is really super slow, as Day 21 is about over now. Even the bantams are slow to come out this time. I got one of Rex's chicks in the brooder, but the mama is my EE.
