When do these heritage breed roos mature? My roo hatched about the first of the year. I think he was crowing, but he does not crow much and he is still not doing his "job"Hubby keeps telling me, he is just a slow bird to mature, but come on?.... ok he can take all the time he wants, but when can I expect him to reach sexual maturity? I see really young roos trying to practice and he shows no interest that I have seen.

Breeds and even strains mature at different times. A true Heritage bird will take longer to mature. The heavy breeds even longer than the light breeds.
We had our little roo "happy" killed today by one of our dogs. He flew out of the brooder today, and before we could get to him it was to late. My kids, and wife are devastated. This was our first ever loss. Im posting because our chicks are only four weeks old and happy was our only Roo. Is there anyone that that knows where i can get a roo that is around the same age. Thank you in advance

I lost a four month old barred rock roo yesterday. He stuck his head into the kennel and my hateful female collie took it off. Ouch! Thankfully he butchered out good. Well, I fixed the hole in the fence but the roo was well colored and I was looking forward to seeing the chicks he sired. Sorry for your loss but I guess everyone has a sad story to tell (or will have one)..
I emailed Tom Roebuck and he replied with his article on breeding Buff Plymouth Rocks that Bob spoke of.
