Plymouth Rock thread!

I was just curious because they are so nice

Many show people in my area say that a show is the best form of advertisement. I would have to agree!

It is only good advertisement if you win. It is a good place to sell birds though.

I had a few enquiries, and mine didn't win show or anything. One of my girls did win BB, and another one of my girls won Champion Continental (not a rock - a houdan) I wasn't willing to let any go that I brought to sale, but I took names down for eggs.

You just have to win a first to easily sell birds at a show. You don't have to win the show. Olny one person wins the show...Congrats on winning with a Houdan. There is no doubt that it is easier to sell a bird in the show than one in the sales area. I was talking about the advertisement part.

Good to know! Thanks :) My rocks are nothing like Fred's or Cynthia's. I do think they are pretty though.

Here is another.

Those birds above, axoa are wonderful. Production, hatchery type BRs serve a purpose. There simply aren't enough heritage BRs to supply all the small holders and BYCers. Likely, most of the small holders and BYCers would not even particularly like the true bred Barred Rock. They'd not necessarily have the patience to grow them out, as they take FOREVER. They'll never lay like most production BRs either, although they will lay well enough.

The hatcheries provide a service, such as it is. Would the whole world be happy with heritage fowl? I sincerely doubt it. Those who desire them need to give them a try. They are wonderfully different.

Exactly. My hatchery barred rock boy is used in a cross with a cochin to make a very nice meat type bird, and he has an outstanding temperament. My hatchery girls lay like RSLs. They are wonderful.

These birds here are from a nice line. I am not sure how they will look full grown, but here is the sire:
1000

I've seen them in person. His stock were really nice. Did your birds originally come from Good Shepard?

Yes. Good Shepherd to Jamie to Kathy to me, I believe.

I am getting a gander from him in October. Someone is going to get the gander for me and bring it here. I am very tempted to somehow get a few of his rocks over the border - though I have no idea how

Heritage rocks are so hard to get your hands on here. Everything is very production based.

The are from Good Shepard to Jeremy Woeppel(j-whip) to Mrs. kathyinmo then you (Fred) LOL.

They are nice and sweet too all I've seen and the ones I have myself. I have 2 different groups one from Mrs. Kathy (6 all boys) and the other bunch is from Matt1616 (6 all pullets) all are from the Good Shepard stock.
