Plymouth Rocks or Buff Orpingtons

I would get whatever you think is prettier.

I like my mix of breeds and colors, I couldn't pick just one. I'm assuming they will all lay a slighty different colored egg to make it interesting. They about 6 months old if you are wondering.

I decided to mark elcunni75 's $.02 with the Barred Rocks mainly because of the egg size, but also because it seemed to have a BR slant to it as well. So if your keeping track....

Buff Orpington - 7
Barred Plymouth Rock - 7

This really isn't making my decision any easier to be quite honest.

I have many of both and I really like both, but if eggs are your priority as you stated then it will have to be the BR's very dependable.

I have two of each. The Buff Orpingtons are much easier to pick up and seem calmer over all. Mine are not old enough to lay eggs yet. But, I got the Barred Rocks because it was said they are beter layers than the Buff Orpingtons. I think they are both pretty chickens when they get to be adults.

I like the Buff Orpingtons better myself. They lay well and have a better temperament. I have 2 Barred Rocks and they lay well, but they are aggressive for food. They peck my hand before I can get the food set down.

I adore my BO. We have 3 and they are all friendly. More so now that their roo has found another home.
The only Rock I have had was a Partridge Rock and he was, well... a mean roo.

My BOs are not laying yet. However my Black Australorp has been laying pretty daily for over a week. And she is a week younger than the rest of my flock of 5.

Thanks for the info and votes everyone, As I count it the latest number of votes it looks like the BO has gain pulled ahead by a slim margin....

Buff Orpington - 10
Barred Plymouth Rock - 8

Cmom thanks for the site info I am checking them right now.

I vote Buff Orpington. I have one of each. The BR has stopped laying since cold weather came, but the BO is still shelling them out. She lays a pretty large egg, bigger than the BR eggs. Also, my BR is mean and chases the other chickens: seems like just for something to do.
