Plymouth Rocks or Buff Orpingtons

I vote for Plymouth Rocks.

I got my chicks last spring from Cackle Hathery via Rural King. I really wanted BO's and was tickled to have 4. They were all roos and I planned to keep one of them. Mean as the devil every one. Mean to my hens, mean to other roos. They are tasty though but of course I think the mean roos taste the best.

I have 3 white rock hens, 2 rir, 1 BA and 1 easter egger (who lays brown eggs). My white rocks laid first and lay best.

My BOs are the friendliest, I only have two hens, one turned out to be a rooster, such is life. The BRs lay nice big eggs, but they're skittish, worse than even the RIRs. I started out with a variety and I'm not sorry I did, but if I had to choose one I'd go with the BOs.

I have two of each....Get a couple of both. Mine get along well with one another. I think my BR's have a bit more personality than my BO's. But I love them all. They should all be laying by the first of the year and I can't wait!

I think it depends on where you get them.
So I thought you could get some of each and see witch ones you like more. then sell the other or keep it.

I would vote for Barred Rocks. My Ella was the sweetest of all my girls, and she laid about 5 eggs a week.

*However (and I'm whispering this so as not to hurt some chickie feelings) I think the Buff Orps are prettier. *

How hot does it get there? My BO did the best in the heat, I think it may have had to do with her coloring. I also like being able to see her when it was dark out. The BR will blend in. That can be a good thing as far as predators goes.

They're both great breeds, you have a tough choice.

I have 1 BR Hen and 1 Hatchery BO Hen. The hen was laying when I got her and after the move stopped. She hasn't laid at all since early October. The BR hen is laying every day all through winter and its a good sized brown egg.
