And I'm glad they did. I've already voted, but I have to say I'm amazed at the people who find the BRs warm and friendly - mine tolerate me so long as I do nothing more than glance at them, they're flighty, make a lot of (neat) noises, lay nice, big, rown eggs, but they're not friendly. My BO's are the nicest, and may not lay quite as large of an egg but large enough, and consistently.

I love my barred rocks, very consistant girls. Not especially friendly, but I didnt handle them when they were little. They arent flighty at all, tho. When I go to the coop to enjoy some Chicken TV, they lay down right next to me and close their eyes and relax. That being said.....Im hatching some buff orps to go along with them. I have my barred rocks in with my blue splash black rocks, and its like Im watching black and white TV. I need some color. So I decided on buff orps to add a little color and to keep the good layers.

So I dont know who I voted for....

My barred rocks were bought at 6 weeks old, and didn't get much handling before that. They are sweet and friendly.

My buff orps were bought as day-olds, and never were very friendly. They were much more stand-offish than the BRs are.

MY VOTE IS FOR THE BUFFS. MINE ARE SOOOO GENTLE. THEY CAN BE HANDELED & CUDDLED. THEY RUN UP THE DRIVEWAY TO SEE ME WHEN THEY HEAR MY TRUCK IF THEY'RE OUT WHEN I GET HOME. GRACIE-MAE CHICKEN STARTED LAYING FOR THE FIRST TIME DURING THE 1ST 12'' SNOWSTORM OF THE SEASON.
WE HATCHED THEM IN AN INCUBATOR LAST JULY. WE LOVE OUR BIRDS!!!! THE BUFFS DO NOT DISSAPOINT.

If egg laying is your "highest priority" than the Barred Rocks win hands down................plus you won't have the broodiness problem you will have with Orpingtons....................... I love my Orpingtons..............but If I had to choose and egg production was my priority?... Barred Rocks~

Not even a question...Barred Rocks rock! Our girl is really more like a dog than a chicken. She jumps in our arms, on our shoulders or on our head. She is constantly talking and moaning. I'm sure she's saying something! When she was little and in the house she would jump on my lap to watch TV (she loved America's Got Talent). She is the sweetest chicken ever, though she's a bit of a slacker egg-wise (she's 6 months and still nothing). She's starting to squat so I think the eggs will be coming soon. But you won't go wrong with BR sisters! Go Rock, Go Rock!!!!

I would really like to thank everyone for participating in my little poll. I've gained some outstanding information and think I can safely say that both breeds are worthy chickens. That being said this can't go on forever (sooner or later I have to purchase and/or order the actual birds). The final vote will be tallied on January 1, 2009 and no votes will be counted after that (unless you ask nicely

). So tell your friends to cast their votes. I am 95% certain I will be using this poll to determine the breed I will keep FIRST.

IT'S IN YOUR HANDS PEOPLE. So keep them coming.

Here is the most recent count as I fgure it.

Buff Orpingtons - 23
Barred Plymouth Rocks - 23
