Title: The Realm of the Backyard Hens
Type of poem: um... I don't know!
Your inspiration: (optional) Chickens, of course!
(Must be read with a one two THREE kind of rhythm...)

The Realm of the Backyard Hens

Summer days
And Lemonade
Sitting out back in the patio chairs
But hot dogs beware!
For you will find the chickens there.
Scratch, scratch
Cluckety cluck

Here roam the layers,
The cluckers,
The players
Of keep-away games with a crust of stale bread.
Yes, here roam the scratchers
The chocolate-cake snatchers
All happy this warm afternoon.

Yes, show them some grass
And they'll show you a spot
Perfect for scratching
And bug-eating. As well as a lot
Of little holes in the ground
Where they roll around
And get dirt in their feathers for fun.

O, here roam the chickens!
The marvelous chickens.
Who play here and lay here and surely hold sway here
In this backyard
This fine afternoon.

But Human beware
To set foot in there
For you will be assaulted by hens
All clucking and screaming
And yelling and screeching
For a treat! (For you surely have one?)

If you happen to live
And escape from their realm
Be sure to warn others
Of the cuteness of hens!
For they will be here
Scratching the ground
Until Time bubbles over
And takes with it
The Hens.

Title: Camelot Forgotten
Type of poem: Free verse
Inspiration: Many years of living

A knight woke late one morning,
and felt that he was cold.
He stumbled to his mirror
and discovered he was old.

As he rode to face the dragon
he found to his dismay,
his once dark powerful charger
was now half lame and gray.

His arms felt tired and heavy
as he fought the dreadful beast,
and he wondered if he'd win the battle,
or on him would the dragon feast.

He swung his sword with all his might,
but the melee raged til almost night.
When at last the day was o'er
and he had the battle won,
he knew that he was finished,
he knew his quests were done.

As he limped home late that evening,
with sword dragging in the dust,
he knew his shining armor
would soon be a suit of rust.

Why the knight was so badly battered,
why his armor has lost its gleam,
is that those for whom he fought the dragons
have forgotten how to dream.

Title: Memories
Type of poem: Free verse
Inspiration: A beautiful rainy night.

Memories

There was a moment
when all was right,
a soft, melodic,
quiet night.

As rain streamed down
the darkened pane,
washing all
self doubt away.

A safe haven
within the dark,
where shattered thoughts
and dreams cavort.

A moment
photographed within the mind,
embraced in the place
kept by time.

Title: You Are
Type of poem: Free Verse
Your inspiration: (optional)

You are the earth beneath my feet
You are the ice buried under my sleet
You are the will that lets me care
You are the grin in which I bare
You are the ocean, deep and blue
You are the reward I own all to
You are the time that passes me by
You are the new thing in which I try
You are that fly on the wall
You are the mirror, both wide and tall
You are the love that I learn to know
You are the promise that I will grow
You are the flower, the start of new things
You are the air beneath my wings
You are the moral of my tale
You are the boat underneath my sail
You are the sky beside my star
You are my everything
You are, you are!

Title: These Words
Type of poem: Free Verse
Your inspiration: (optional)

Sister, do you know these words?
The ones in which I speak?
Are they besides the sands of time?
Tell me, are they meek?

These words do have a flavor,
Some consistency, to say
But sister,
Are they written fine?
Are they more than just okay?

Sister, they were all for you
Purely, all along
You didn’t seem to know it
You thought that I was wrong

So sister, it’s time to run
For these words I speak run, too
Along the pages of the book,
We both came to love and knew

Sister, you needn’t quote me,
From these words we’ve come to know
You’ve left these words without me,
Because you told me not to go

Sister, do you know these words?
The ones in which I speak?
They are written in the stars.
Just for you to seek.

I know that you can find them
You’ve certainly done it before
And when you see you knew them,
Sister, you’ll know more
