I am so happy for you! On my first and only hatch the second one to hatch seemed to be taking so long and I didnt know i should wait 24 hours to see if he could make it out by its self so the next morning I decided to help it very nerve racking I thought I would kill it but it made it just fine even with my help
Congradulations:thumbsup

Thank you all so much for all the well wishes, you dont know how much it means

At this point I dont think we are out of the woods yet, he is still just laying down and I cant really tell if "everything is where it should be" or if he is deformed or anything, but he keeps talking back to me so hopefully he just needs rest and the warm incubator...Trust me, if this little guy makes it, you can count on lots of pictures!!!

Oh my goodness, this little guy is still hanging on, I am SO happy!!!! Tonight after getting home (darn work-Holiday functions

) we got the remaining egg shell and membrane off, the naval is still red but not "oozing", and we put him in a small tuperware in the 'bator with a small fuzzy ball....still not really stable, I gave him a few drops of warm sugar water and kind of propped him up against the fuzzy ball inside the tuperware....please little trooper, make it through the night!

UPDATE: Trooper is still with us!!!! I am trying to get him a Silkie brooder buddy, but in the meantime I'm preparing his brooder with stuffed animals....GO TROOPER!! One of his legs seems a little off but we'll see...Pictures coming soon!!

Sadly, we lost Trooper tonight at 9:30pm.....so very sad, I thought he was going to make it. I even got a few brooder buddies for him today from a fellow BYC member but by later on this evening, he was fading fast, and passed away about 2 hours later.. RIP little Trooper

This stinks

Oh, that does stink! Poor baby. I'm so sorry you lost him.

One thing chickies seem to love in their brooder (I learned this on byc somewhere) is a feather duster. We've used them in the brooders for the last couple of hatches, and the babies LOVE them! They burrow right in like it's mama's feathers.

Adorable to watch.
