Polish chickens in deplorable condition

I know people raise chickens to eat as well as for eggs but all of my chickens are considered pets. Who would have thought 2 years ago that I would be such a chicken fanatic, I love their looks, personalities, how they come a running for treats, even when they are stinkers and fly out of their run. I find them to be a calming and joyful escape and yes I have chairs in the run like the rest of you do, so I can bond with them. I guess I am the crazy chicken lady. I don't understand why people can't even give animals the basic care, how would they like to be locked in a shed with artificial sunlight, no fresh greens, reeking of chicken urine, and being bullied every single day of their lives ugh I could not even imagine. Even If we did eat our chickens they would have a good life until the time came to cull them.

My chicks are pets too! I could never ever eat any of my chickens!
My chicks are 3 weeks old and I play with them outside every day!

Wow you have your hands full with all those dogs I guess you have a dog addiction LOL they are all beautiful looking animals.

I saved some australarps like that once. They were kept in this tiny coop, it had windows but not ones that opened, and while they could go outside they had no hope for walking on grass or anything, there were even dead chickens in the coop! You could tell they had been there awhile ad they were mostly bones. That is so gross!
They were in rough shape, I got 15 that day, and the first week they were dropping like flies, I assume from the conditions they came from. I gave a friend 6 after they were healthy again, and I currently on have 4. But I love the eggs they lay and how their black feathers shine in the sun. They also lay the largest brown eggs out all my birds.
Even if I were raising my chickens for food or just eggs, I would want them to be happy and healthy, because a happy healthy bird will lay better and the meat will taste better!

Zoe I bet there are thousands of stories like ours, thank you for rescuing the astrolorps., I did get the other 3 bantams and 4 Rhode island reds and also a giant Flemish rabbit today lol. The people kept one bantam 3 white rocks and some of the Rhode island red chicks, those poor babies.. I did what I could, the chicks seem to be in great shape as they were separated from the other chickens but there was about 4 inches of chicken poo on everything, it was everywhere yuck. The guy says as he is trying to catch the chicks "I don't really want to kneel down in this ****" you can about imagine what i wanted to say.

Not sure if you can see their heads well they were still quite flighty today and I did not want to upset them further.

Oh those poor birds, I am so glad you rescued them.
I'm not sure if I missed the post but did you go back to get the other ones?

I've got rubber boots! I know its silly since we live in a small town surrounded by farmers but
for some reason I thought you had to like order them from a catalog or something and they only made
them for men. Wouldn't you know our farm supply store had them for women, lol.
I'm going to love living in the country with washable rubber boots, chickens, fresh eggs and plump veggies

not to mention the guineas coming next month to clean the ticks from the yard. Oh and hubby is bringing
a paddle boat over for us to use on the little lake. Thinking about it makes me want to cry.
The house will be done in about two more weeks and we will finally move.
Goodbye trashy yard across the street, goodbye factory noise, goodbye train that runs at 4 am every night, goodbye
city sewer that loves to back up into our basement.

I figure I better stop there the list could go on and on.
