Hi so I was planning on showing this year obviously that’s not gonna happen but we still did get our checks in and so as I’m training them I noticed a couple don’t have as big of puffs as others they are only a week or so old just wondering does the size of puffs they have going to affect the size of crest they have and also I noticed that some roosters have almost no crest feathers but I’m noticing that I don’t see any photos of Hens With little to no crust but only the same size of crest do hens always have the same amount of crest here’s a pic of them this is not what they are in in case you were wondering But we had a couple poopy butts and feet

Yes, the size of the poofs as chicks will affect the size of the adult crest, but I wouldn't start picking yet or disregard the less poofy. The males should actually have a larger crest than the females, however, it is a radically different shape, which can support the bulk much better. The female's crest is described as "large and globular" while the male's is "very large" and the feathers fall gracefully to the nape of his neck.

Thanks we’re not planning on getting rid of anybody with a less puffy crust if they’re not quality for shows I’ll just be there to add to the numbers of chickens we have I have a rooster that is a polish he’s my profile photo but he is the only one we’ve had but this time we got 12 unfortunately one didn’t make it so far I just hope we get 3 to 6 that would be quality and good for show
