I have a year old polish hen that is laying really weird pointy eggs. Most of the time they are broken. She hasn't laid in a while now. Is there anything I can give her so she will stop laying period! I am afraid she may have or starting to get an infection like egg yolk peritonitis. She's my pet and I don't want her to suffer! Any information would help thank you!

There's no way to stop her from laying permantly unless you were to take her to a vet and have them remove her oviduct (the avian equivalent of being spayed) but that's invasive surgery, will be expensive, and hard on the bird. To temporarily stop her laying, you could try to force a molt, but I really think the problem here is that she's not getting enough calcium. That would explain the weak shells and the fact that they're always broken. Trying offering oyster shell free choice and I bet her eggs will be more normal again :)

Thank you Pyxis! My girls have a bowl of oyster shell and a bowl of grit next to their food for them to free feed. Do you happen to know something else I may give her to help her produce stronger eggs? I am willing to try anything to help her!

Hmm...you could start mixing ground eggshells with their food to boost the calcium in it. I really hope she doesn't start internally laying, since there's no cure for that :( Maybe somebody else will come along with a good idea. I know my polish girl sometimes lays odd pointy eggs but usually only every once in a while.
