Hi all!
Recently, our polish rooster has gotten a lot more sluggish and has began to take a lot of "siestas" during the day. Temperatures have been around 100 for the past few weeks, but he hasn't shown these symptoms until recently. Temperatures are starting to fall, and average around 95 on most days. He hasn't been panting as much, and only holds his wings away from his body on certain occasions. The thing that concerns me is that he sleeps for a good portion of the day, and his comb goes a pale while (or even orange), however we have seen this with one of our hens when she gets hot. Last night, he seemed especially weak, but we didn't know what to do about it. He doesn't want any food or water, or at least won't take any from us.
We have also just recently gave away one of our roosters, who would be chased several times throughout the day by our polish. Ever since, the flock has been more at peace. Could he just be getting lazy now that he doesn't have to chase away another roo?

Does he or the others seem to be molting? Mine are all lying around, resting, not eating a lot, and have feathers all over. Will he come for scrambled egg, tuna, or moist canned cat food? Wet chicken feed is better, but an occasional higher protein treat would be okay.

Yes he is! Poor guy doesn't have a tail anymore. In fact all of our chickens are molting. He does come for tuna, just tried.

How about giving the flock a soluble vitamin, which will help all of them through the moult. Plus extra protein as others have suggested. It takes a lot out of them to grow a whole set of new feathers.
