This fella is an Easter egger. Just doing internet research, I figure he's a Polish. But looking at y'all's lovely birds, now I'm not so sure. Help! Anyone know?
He's just a poor quality Polish, really. But he's got all the Polish characteristics - Gold Laced color, cavernous nostril, crest, slate blue legs, slim build, beard, etc.
frizzle is a mutation gene in feathers, its an accident gene. in order to get another frizzle u must have one frizzle parernt and only some of the chicks will be frizzle not all. its not good to breed a frizzle to a frizzle because u get bad or unwanted things in the bird such as bald spots. u can stronger the gene by breeding a frizzle roo to a hen that carrys the frizzle gene but has smooth feathers. that way u have better chances of the chicks being frizzle. i have frizzle cochin eggs, frizzle polish eggs, and sizzle slkie eggs in the bator. and i bet very few will actully come with the frizzle gene
I'm obviously quite inexperienced with chickens. I assumed that Easter eggers were the chicks one got from feed stores at Easter. Which is how we came by this boy. He's only five months old - four and a half in this photo - and crowed for the first time yesterday. Thank you!
