You can do whatever you want with your own backyard flock, but remember, when you promote your "finished" breed as "Polish" the offspring carries ALL those negative recessive genes (in the case of the Houdan) that will pop up when people least expect it (extra toes, etc). Just like someone bred a feathered leg something into their Lav/Black/Blue Ameraucana, those feathered leg traits are popping up unwanted all over the place, and the parentstock don't always show that, and it becomes a nightmare to pinpoint and then breed back out.

And as far as your plan with what you are calling Tolbunts, you should strongly reconsider your program. Additionally, 1 to 3 years down the road for the "real" Tolbunts is not a realistic goal, compounded with what we've seen and what you claim to be pairing together, you will be setting yourself up for failure, or misleading others to believing what you have are indeed Tolbunt.

Why put the time, money, and effort into that?

Google is your friend...search out some Tolbunt breeders to help you.

ETA: to fix an error.

I am seeing some light and dark patterning in both chicks feathers, so they both might just end up being cuckoo, which is fine with me

FYI - Five toes is a dominant trait. Recessive traits, even such things like say a clean-faced bird, can still be handled through careful breeding and time. It's called test mating.

And I'm curious, what makes you think it will not turn out to Tolbunts? Tell me, with some genetics included in your answer. I'd love to know.

ETA - I'm certainly not selling any birds labelled as Tolbunts, and I'm informing the public of what really is going on. It is up to their decision to judge and name what they want. But if you insist on considering me wrong, I want to hear a well detailed answer. Genetically speaking too.

My WCB have better weight, better breasts, better tails, and better crests as well as production than any laced Polish I've own or known of. Yes, they're E/E which is far off the many genes that Tolbunts carry but that's where a long road comes into play. I know plenty enough abuot how genetics work to get round the rough stuff.

Besides, it's just one of my approaches. I'm also doing the normal Tolbunt x Gold Laced everyone else does too, as well as a Silver Laced hen who's honestly far better than any of my GL hens or any GL hens within access to the eggs/chicks/etc of.

I've talked to Tolbunt breeders, seen their stuff, and I'm sorry but I'm just gonna try some things on the side. I'm tired of squirrel tails, small crests, waay too much white, way too much breeding back to Tolbunt, and too poor of quality in the Gold Laced available to breed to. When I find some worthy Gold Laced stock I'll go with it, but for now I have more "faith" in my WCB's than my Gold Laced, and I've only got the one Silver Laced who's really nice. But she doesn't lay much, and goes broody a lot.

And if other Tolbunt breeders are doing a darn good job, (not meaning to insult them) then why are my parent stock squirrel tailed, one has an improper comb and lack of cavernous nostril, and both are far too gamey in type?

And it's not just my source's stock that is like that. I'm working to IMPROVE Tolbunts, not just the genepool but the birds as a whole. If it takes me years, so be it.
