Well, if you're going to try to breed BCW's my hat's off to you, particularly if you want to wind up with something exhibition quality. There's a lot of work to do there. Those and the tolbunts need people working in their corner who aren't afraid to hatch a lot of chicks to get something worth breeding from. I hope we get to see pictures of your progress in the next few generations.

You should see Joel Henning's WCB Polish (I believe Folkloric Bantams is their name) They're BEAUTIFUL!!!! The roosters have huge flowing crests and awesome feather coloring and quality. You should REALLY see them. At a show in Massachusetts, the northeastern poultry congress, they won Best Polish AND Best Continental. They're amazing birds.

aww! I want to hatch some out but I want some polish and can't find any right now, plus these cold temps make me nervous about shipping eggs. I'll live vicariously through you right now

thank you!!

Yes, he has fabulous birds. But WCB's are a much easier variety than the BCW's. I've never seen a good one of those yet- though I understand they used to exist.

I've been offered some Polish bantams, but not sure whether or not to take them. They're from a local breeder, who wants to reduce her stock. They look fantastic and they would be free of charge.

couple of questions though, I've heard that they need a lot of care, That they need their eyes checked and their crests trimmed on a regular basis, is this true? What other extra care do they need?

How many eggs can I expect from a Polish bantam?

Thank you

I don't give my Polish anything more than what I do for the rest of my birds. If you want to free range your Polish, yes it would be a good idea to trim their crests so they can see to get back to the coop and also see predators and get away.

Polish aren't great layers, they aren't meant to be. They are an ornamental bird. Mine lay about every other day, sometimes every two days.

My WC variety Polish lay like leghorns, even in winter. The bearded whites and buff-laced on the other hand, lay like silkies- which should tell you a lot.... These are all bantams. The care required for a Polish depends on the size of their crests. Show quality birds with huge crests need to be kept dry, feed store Polish with a little tuft of feathers can run around with everyone else. All Polish need to be watched to see if other birds are picking at their crests- they can scalp them in no time.
