If you ever want to break the trend and share some eggs I'd love to buy some to diversify my gene pool.

So here's a question for anyone who wants to answer it: The lady I bought the pair from has 3 chicks from this pair and 1 is smooth-feathered. Would it be worth it to take the smooth chick and breed it back to a parent or is that asking for more trouble than it's worth?

Breeding parent x offspring is safer than offspring x offspring but personally right now I'm just not a supporter at all of breeding two Tolbunts together unless they truly are unrelated for at least 2 generations, so I'm no help, but, I'd say it is safer than brother x sister.

When I get enough eggs I will be happy to share some with other people working on the project, granted that they truly are committed to this.

But the first dozen or two or three are MINE.

I would definitely PREFER not to breed any related birds together, but it is almost impossible to find these guys, related or not. Sigh. I will have to work with what I have for now and hopefully be able to outcross with the GL and go from there. I will definitely be on the lookout for anyone willing to share some eggs in the future. I've been contacting, begging, and stalking breeders of these birds for the last 2 years, so I think most people would consider me committed.

So how can you tell if they are show quality or not? I'm new to the polish thing. I only have one white crested black polish cockrel. We eventually want to get him some girls, though.

I think there's alot of learning involved. Reading about what's considered good. Looking at alot of pictures. Perhaps posting pics of him . I think you could start by looking at him and seeing if you find some flaw, like a crooked toe, or anything you would notice to be off.
