this pic is from earlier in the week it was acting fine. it is snuggled in with its buddies right now

What a cute picture!

I went outside this evening, and my chow hound hen did not come running. I found her with a broken leg. It seems like it's broken under the hip. She's a Polish/Jersey Giant cross.
So I don't think splinting alone is going to work, I will have to make her a sling.

I would definitely PREFER not to breed any related birds together, but it is almost impossible to find these guys, related or not. Sigh. I will have to work with what I have for now and hopefully be able to outcross with the GL and go from there. I will definitely be on the lookout for anyone willing to share some eggs in the future. I've been contacting, begging, and stalking breeders of these birds for the last 2 years, so I think most people would consider me committed.

Oh no - two years? I've been on the hunt for six months, and my husband has decided I have a definite screw loose somewhere.

There is a lady here in Tennessee who is working on Tolbunts....the name she goes by is poultrylady. If you are looking for possibly new blood I know she does sell some eggs. May pay off to check with her to gain some new blood.

Not now. I e-mailed her this week. She unfortunately lost her rooster over the winter, so is apparently back to projects. She had no eggs for sale.

I'm still on the lookout.

So sorry.

I am afraid I am going to lose one of my babies while I am at work today. It wasn't looking too hot this morning. Gave it some vitamins and water, but I am fearing the worst for when I get home this afternoon. This was one of the spraddle babies.

The hardship of having Tolbunts.

I know chickenzoo lost her perfectly healthy 3/4 Tolbunt chicks all of the sudden. . . They seemed fine at least, then dropped like flies.
