Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

400

Here is a pic of hopefully 3 pullets and a roo. This is from early morning. Their Tops are wet from the dew. 2 Golden Laced, Buff Laced and a Black project.

Yeah if you aren't showing trim their poof or use little rubber bands to hold it up so they can see. I have a bout 10 chicks from Murray mc Murray and my lafys have the biggest poof s ever.!

For everyone into genetics and breeding check out polish breeders club they have such good info on genetics and how to use black chickens for getting other colors to come out and tips for polish like mixing mite meds with Vaseline and putting dabs on ur polish since they are prone to mites
rubberbanding and cutting their poofs
All sorts of helpfull tips breeding blues that has been so helpfull for me

That is good to know I work at a vet been there 10 yrs and frontline works amazing never thought about useing it on chicken makes sense but I wonder which is cheaper?

Post pics and ill try sex them. We sex ours when they hatch. We have 6 babies now and 4 more pullets and their brother.. In a way, thats true, but whats true is that a rooster will have a wide crest and they will have long and stringy crest feathers. The females will have loopy feathers and their crest will be rounde.

A cockerel

A pullet. Actually, its two different ones.

thank you! I have adult polish already but I just don't know how to tell the gender of the chicks. Here they are!!

This is my silver laced baby!

And this one I thought was a white crested red (I ordered these from ideal) but its pin feathers are coming in with lacing... hmm

Number 1 could be a girl, but I need a front view over the crest. Its the same way as number 2otherwise. It does have a more rounded and poofy area on its crest though, that could be a girl.
Number 2 is suspicious because it has a lot of poof in the back, but is ovaled. The second pic looks more like a girl.
Number three loks like a boy because its flat and long
Number 4 and 5 are positive girls, a roo would not have that much beard.

Yaya! We had two eggs make it to the end of hatch and the white crested black hatched. My mom slightly helped the white one so it is resting. It pipped last night but it neede help this morning. We could tell because it was cheaping. My mom is gret with helping chicks. She peels away at their pip, careful not to pull a membrane, just so it can breath. Sometimes they finish, but other times my mom helps them a it more. Though, on rare occasion she fully helps. To make sure a cbick doesnt bleed to death, we wet the membran to see if the veins are bloody and then we know if its safe.

I know what you will say, dont help! But we have had a few chicks that would not have hatched without us. One silkie was two days late and my mom helped it and its very okay. Though it lives with a friend now.
