Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hum that is just plain stupid and cruel, if you live in CA you can call on her. That is animal cruelty, and it is punishable by law, specially in CA!
Animals also have right!, lol now I am sounding a bit crazy myself, but that is too greedy and cruel.. Animals need to be protected also, specially this beautiful one of a kind types.

Just received the TopHat Special at Ideal Hatchery and they sure are cute little buggers. I am trying to ID them. The top chick is Polish but I'm not sure what color? The bottom left looks like a White Crested Black Polish and on the right a Sultan, correct?

sounds right, two of them are polish, but im not so sure the white one is a sultan, it looks more like silkie mix because it has five toes... thhe tan one is almost certainly male, and the wcb looks like a girl, Nd depending on what the white one is, it could go either way.

Hmm, according to Cackle Hatchery - "Distinct features of Sultans are head crested feathers, feathered muff, feathered beard, feathered shanks and a fifth toe." I did look at Silkie chicks, it appears that they have black beaks? And this one looks "burly" by comparison. :)

yes, silkies are blue in color... I was not aware of a 5th toe on a sultan? It had an awfully close resemblance to silkies, so thats why I said that. Do sultans come in batnam? I guess we missed out at TSC, there were lots that looked like that, thiught they were poor quality silkie mixes... no wonder...

Hmm... than they were really poor quality silkie mixes! They even had a whole section for older, but even worse quality silkies.

NEVER BUY TSC SILKIES, THEY ARE HORRIBLE IN QUALITY! We learned that this year, and we assume they came from the same hatchery. Our tsc had them in their own section.

Darling chicks! If the white one sports some vulture hocks, a crest, and a beard, it is probably a Sultan but if it has 5 toes each leg and feathers down the leg and down the middle toe then it's probably a Silkie but gender won't be identifiable until later.

OK, I got a little freaked out today when I read on Meyer's site that Polish do not do well in the cold. In your opinion(s) are they cold hardy? I have 3 of them from Mypetchicken, and their site actually says nothing about whether or not they are ok in the cold. The Breeds section here on BYC they are tolerant of all climates. I live in Spokane, WA. Do you think our Polish will tolerate our winters, or should I start looking for a more suitable home for them?
