Thanks I think I can tell which are which now :)

I have about an 8 week old polish. My first. From every picture I have seen he is a cockrel. He is being raised with 2 wyandottes and 2 sex links.

HE is very LAID back. He is either sleeping or eating. The girls walk on him and lay on him. Right now the girls are trying to figure out who gets what perch and he is flat out asleep on the floor.

Is this NORMAL?

Thanks
Marlene

This is how my Polish acts. She is about 4 1/2 weeks old. She sleeps while others go about their business. She doesn't peck the others even though the Gold Sex Link chick that she gets in with sometimes tries to bully her. She sits on my shoulder and will climb up on my lap if out. She is a splash Polish.

My friend's sexlinks were on the aggressive side. Polish are pretty mellow to timid. Not a good flock mix IMO but to each their own. I've had to re-home my assertive breeds that were picking on my non-combative gentles. I get less eggs but the peace in the flock is so worth it.

I was curious if anyone here had experience with breeding Polish to other breeds. I'm asking because last month I hatched 2 eggs from my Polish hens that were fertilized by my Sebright rooster.

The chicks look like this right now. Mostly all Sebright, with the exception of these mohawks they seem to be developing. I'm tryin to figure out what the odds are that they'll actually end up with maybe a partial crest. I know it won't be a full crest like the hens since the chicks weren't born with that domed head.

Any guesses or input is greatly appreciated as the wait to see them fully feathered is driving me nuts! :D

I have hatched a Amber link hen x frizzle polish roo. Only tried 2 eggs and both hatched. 2 totally different chicks. One is a brown colour the other is a brownish with some silver lace and its frizzle. Here's a pic of one, will get some more up to date ones as their little Mohawks are growing now.

I am seeing that I already have an "alpha" pullet in the sex links, a top of the pecking order already at this very young age. The Polish flies in with them. She is the only one I have, and she flies back out. But thank you for the heads up and I will keep an eye open and watch how this plays out. The Polish is older and larger at this time than the Sex link chicks, but the Polish already has a name, and is a pet, so I may very well be rehoming the Sex Links, at some time in the future.
