Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pics
I've got a buff laced polish chick who is about 5-6 weeks old and has some red in his/her little v-comb already! He has a much more "mo-howak" looking hair-do compared to some of the other chicks with the more full/fountain looking hair-dos

At what age can I assume redness in the comb to be sex indicative? These polish are my first experience with v-comb poultry and usually I've been accurate sexing my other chicks around this age by the redness in their combs....

what age would you say polish are able to be accurately sexed? Any help would be much appreciated!

THANK YOU!

I can't even see a v comb on my polish chick

so this is a pair of 6 week old polish babies, queenie and elvis... your thoughts on sex. Elvis(B/W) has a tiny bit of red on wattles, but they are still pretty tiny. At 6 weeks are we getting to early mature or just figure roo?

Queenie dosent have any v comb showing dose elvis have one?

Isn't zero combs as it should be? Standard says natural absence preferred, same as with wattles. On a good Polish that does mean waiting til their juvenile molt to determine sex though. Just gearing up for my first season breeding Polish, but that is one of the first culling criteria, especially at such a young age.

Thank you BG...someone kept asking me about combs...I kept saying that I don't think they have combs...or shouldn't...any thoughts on their sex otherwise? What age can you tell sex in polish?

Reminder, I'm a newcomer to Polish but I wasn't confident until 9 weeks of age, I do know that hatchery birds, or lower quality breeder birds are normally easier to tell and the better the birds are the harder it is to tell (larger fuller crests being the culprit). Even then there were still a few that I had questions about (heck I have a 12 week old Buff Laced that I still have no clue on, I'm waiting for saddle feathers to come in). So please keep in mind this is just a guess but in your picture if I HAD to guess I'd say the white is a cockerel (kinda looks like some of those crest feathers are pointy male feathers?) and the other one is a pullet again based on what's showing in the crest feathers.

Edit: For an example of how tough it can be, look at the picture of one of my White's I posted at the top of page 24 (it was almost 9 weeks at that point), and the posters below it that guessed it was a pullet. It is definitely a cockerel (and almost got culled due to the wattles, but has enough other good points he'll probably find his way to a breeding pen.)

I have a White Crested Black Polish Rooster whose head is bare on the backside because my hens always peck his feathers out as they begin to grow in. We've even tried separating him from them and allowing the feathers to grow back in fully, but within a few minutes of reintroducing him to the flock, the girls are after him. Any suggestions?

A Helmet?!? Hahahahaaa

I was out taking photos of some of my other birds so I thought I'd share this one I took of a pair of my Whites. Cockerel in the front, Pullet hiding behind, 10-11 weeks old.
