My daughter's friend loves my oldest chick..the younger babies are only a little over a week but my oldest is going on 2 months..it's in between the anvil and Mohawk stage..I'm still torn on its sex. .looks like a roo except for absolutely no red in the face.. she calls them 'the afro chickens' and they are the first place she goes whe n she gets here..she's spending the next few days bc I have quail, Silkies and layers all hatching out n she wants to watch ♡
You're more than welcome to ship some of those Gold laced babies up here anytime

Depending on what part of WV you're in, could just be a nice ride here for you! Only 3.5hrs from Huntington! :) I wish we could ship, the two of us just can't do it...Just the thought of hearing, even once, a baby arrived dead would kill us...

How coincidental and something I never mentioned because I didn't think it was significant. We had a cockerel of another breed that didn't seem to mind if his legs dangled when we held him in the "judge's show hold" but every hen we have does not like the insecurity of having dangling legs - the Ameraucana hen sort of lets her legs down but only if she is held close against our chest. The Silkies and Breda want to feel a supporting hand under their feet.

I am the same way ♡ My babies are my babies, regardless of it they have feathers, fur or skin ♡
I ship and buy eggs, and have an order placed with a hatchery but even the hatchery order has me scared to death..I did order all straight runs and a few roos just bc I hate what they do to the boys..it breaks me up inside and I just can't help but feel I'm still contributing even though I did my best to even get extra boys..I've got the room, why not give a couple a chance at a real life. I don't eat my birds...ever..
I'm about 2 hours north of Huntington, but I may get lucky one day n make it down that way ;) That's where I got my Yorkie pup..I think she came from Greenup? I think that was the name..

If it's really due to a head peck, there's not a lot you can do..I have a Silkie thst had it, she's a little over 2 months and has been treated since day 1 with vitamins and they all have a great diet, free range time (almost 12 hours a day) but she still lays her head back when she eats or drinks and even now sometimes just because. You can try baby vitamins without iron (lots of threads in emergency section on that) but I do physical therapy with mine..hold treats out n she stretches this way and that..good luck!!

I'm sorry about Archie. My friend had a silkie rooster named Blackberry that got wry neck. He lived for 1 year with wry neck and then died. I have heard many wry neck miracle stories and I hope Archie gets better.

Was much worse this morning. I thought he was dead when i looked in his cage this morning. I put him out of his misery. I've never cryed over a cull before. Bawled like a baby. RIP to the best rooster ever Archie boy

Sorry to hear of your loss. I live in suburban Louisville ,KY and still have issues with Hawks. We have a lot of mature trees on our property and have seen Hawks after squirrels but thought they seemed too small to be a threat to chickens. However yesterday I found my flock not wanting to go outside and today a pair of Hawks swooped near the flock while I was out there with them. Anyway let me share some pics of my new babies
