Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought I read somewhere that crossing a laced bird to a solid would produce all black chicks? Is this correct? Maybe it is a Polish but just an "oops" from a solid and a laced mixing? Aren't creveceour's typically bearded? Not that familiar on that particular tophat variety. :)

The bird in question is bearded. Crest size and color is what made me question the Polish identification. No idea on crossing solid color to laced, never had an occasion to cross a bird "just because" would probably depend on what was hiding underneath the solid.

Makes me sad about mine.. I was hoing to get into raising some polish chickens :( i baught my hen because i told told the Roo was polish.. looks like ill have to take him to the sale and try to find a roo that IS polish

At what age can you typically identify pullets from cockerels? I have a pair of WC cuckoo bantams that are 9 weeks old. We (the breeder and I) thought they might be a matched pair based on the shape of their crests when they first hatched. I named them Liberace and Phyllis Diller. Now, their combs and wattles seem to be the same size and neither have started to crow or lay (probably too young still). This is my first experience with polish so I'm not sure at what age these things begin to happen. Thanks in advance for your help.

Here are a few pictures of them.

Last week This is only one of them (the one I think is the cock) but the other's crest, comb and wattles are almost the same size now.

Check earlobes. Polish are supposed to have white and are narrower bodied. Crevecouers are supposed to have red ear lobes.
Thank you so much for the information. I would like to know where you read about the standards of what the breed should be. I do not want any mixed chickens. I enjoy pure breeds, even In my other animals that I own.

APA Standard of Perfection which can be purchased directly from their website. Every poultry person worth a darn should own one. Don't ignore the first 38 pages either. Lots of good info in front part of book.

From that far away the bottom one looks like a girl, have you got any close up pictures of the crest from the front and the comb/wattles?
