Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bird in question is bearded. Crest size and color is what made me question the Polish identification. No idea on crossing solid color to laced, never had an occasion to cross a bird "just because" would probably depend on what was hiding underneath the solid.

Oh, I know it had a beard. I was just trying to throw in some perspective on them being Polish, perhaps. :) They could just be poor stock, maybe, in regards to the crest size. I have done some nonchalant reading on genetics (researching blues & khakis) and think I came across someone asking a question on what one would get crossing a solid to a laced. It got quite heated, actually, with a debate on crossing "just to see" or "just because".

Since reading that article, while scouting Craigslist ads to sell some extra silkie roosters, I have come across someone selling black polish. I believe they are crossing their laced with a solid to achieve that based on the ad pictures.

So perhaps they ARE Polish, just not a standard color, or perhaps they are not, having been passed around to people as actual Polish. Either way, they are very close in looks. Do they have good personalities?

I bought my eggs from a breeder who had a frizzled crele in with Buff laced hens. This is what I hatched....lol Body is buff and crest is turning crele. I thought until this week, that this was a cockerel, thinking pullet now?

Check earlobes. Polish are supposed to have white and are narrower bodied. Crevecouers are supposed to have red ear lobes.
Hey BGMatt,
Thanks for the advise, I did some research last night and low and behold, My chicken has four toes, red ear lobes and matches the description that was given on the Crevecoeur. I will have to wait and see if I have a pullet or a roo . Then see if I can find a mate for it. I would love to breed the Crevecoeur. It is a very interesting chicken.
Oh and they do only come in black in the united states. In France they have a blue and another color. But as far as I could find out only Black in the United States.
Again Thanks for the advise.

They're really cool with a lot of history to them! Not sure how old that bird is but she looks pullet-ish, for what it's worth.
