Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pics
I'm getting 10 Polish in about 8 days for my Birthday. I'm having 5 W.C. Black, and 5 plain white. They're from a hatchery-does that mean I can't show them? I do plan of breeding them. Could they mix????

You can show them but depending on where you're showing they may or may not do well for you. If you're showing at te 4H/County Fair level & you raise them well they should do ok. If you plan to show them in APA sanctioned open shows against well bred birds you'll probably be disappointed with the outcome. With rare exception hatcheries don't produce birds that are worthy of showing. It would be very lucky indeed to get a show winner fom such a small group.
If you're a beginner & I suspect you are there's nothing wrong with starting with hatchery birds, most successful breeders/exhibitors started that way. Use them to learn husbandry skills & if you interest holds move on to better bred birds. Don't start with hatchery birds expecting to do well in the showroom though. That just leads to disappointment & frustration.

So, does anybody have any breeding projects going on??, I'm going to try to create a blue laced buff, blue laced silver, and blue laced golden.

I'm just starting with my own chickens, though my dad has had them for a few years. We have a white crested blue. She's pretty. Thanks for letting me know about the showing. I think I'll try it anyway, and have fun learning what to do.

I do! I am putting eggs in the incubator this week from my Gold Laced Rooster and my White Crested Red Hen. She doesn't lay but about a dozen eggs per year, so I haven't had any from her since last spring. The ones I hatched last year could have been a complete fluke, but all of the cockerels (3) turned out to be gold with black crests and laced tails. The pullets (2) both turned out to be the color of the one in the pic below. Definitely not SOP colors, but I am crossing my fingers that these two birds could be producing sex-linked babies! I breed based on temperament, and these two have absolutely everything I am looking for. The offspring are laying well too. I kept the one pullet below, and she is laying 4-5 medium sized eggs per week.
I'm probably going to get blasted for breeding "mutts", but they are pure Polish........ just not SOP colors.

I am not sure this is the correct thread to this on and if not I apologize ahead of time. At what point can you tell the sex of the polish breed, any tell all signs like coloring or Feathering or "hair"? My second year with chickens, first year with polish, are only a little over week.
