Political Ramblings

After browsing through the comments here I am amazed, how can you not think where we have come to as a society doesn't have an affect on peoples actions. We allow video games where the main object is to KILL other people. We allow things that decrease the value of a human life. We have a population that increasingly believes they are "entitled" to things without working for them and then are outraged when they don't get them.
Our government the people we as a nation elected to lead us are the worst example of this and it filters down to everyone, how many businesses can spend more than they make and pay people for not working can survive this is just common sense. Also when things go bad this country as a whole is horrible at accepting responsibility for there actions. Guns do not kill people people kill people a gun is just a tool so if we blame guns for doing it are we not really over looking the real problem. Maybe we should ban automobiles because thousands of people are killed by drunk drivers.
The one thing I read on here that is really unbelievable is a statement that people in socialist countries have it better than we do is just ridiculous if that were true why are people from these countries flocking here and when they get here are over joyed with the opportunities available here, but for those who think this your wish will come true because that is where this country is heading faster than we think take the time to watch this short clip before it is banned.

Which Socialist countries would they be, please?

Society used to hold people responsible for their actions and blame them not inanimate objects. If society is really to blame for the actions of the individual then it would be akin to lining up citizens shooting them for the crimes of another. The Bible says that a person is responsible for their own sins and that if a person neglects to tell them of their errors that that is blood on their hands so to speak. It also says that punishment is the role of government not the role of the individual. Nowhere does it say the innocent is to be punished for anothers crime (except for Jesus). Last time I looked video games had shut off switches, gun ownership was optional, and there are many laws already on the books dealing with crime and punishment. If I know someone is going to hurt someone it is my responsibility to prevent that, I am not a mind reader and neither is society.

While I agree that everyone has a right to speak their own mind, on any subject in a democracy there is one thing that we all have to remember; A forum is not a democracy! It is (hopefully) a benevolent dictatorship. (Luckily for us, BYC is.) A forum is the sole property of one person, in most cases.

In the case of BYC, it is owned and operated by Rob Ludlow, aka Nifty-Chicken. As the supreme dictator here at BYC, Nifty does not need to explain the rules he makes. He's omnipotent. It's his house and he gets to make the rules. If you don't like the rules than don't play here.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to Nifty-Chicken and his minions for providing a place for me to learn and grow as a poultry rancher. For politics, I'll go elsewhere.

That was hysterical!! Excellent use of half truths and conjecture to create a giant Marxist conspiracy! Must've taken him a while to create all that.

Lt. General Boykin is vice president of a group that the Southern Poverty Law Center considers a hate group...just a thought to keep in mind.

The Southern Poverty Law Center considers anyone that doesn't agree with them as a hate group. Kind of makes them a hate group against freedom of speech...Just a thought to keep in mind.

disagreeing with someone and calling them on their poor choices does not make someone against free speech.

Freedom of speech means that you can say whatever you want to say. It does not mean that people have to agree with you or that there are not consequences or a rebuttal. The Westboro Baptist Church gets to say what they want to say even if almost every single other person on the planet thinks what they do is extremely inappropriate and sad. They are still a hate group. And they will continue to get to protest funerals because they are protected by the first amendment. The two things are unrelated to one another.

A hate group by definition targets a group of people, generally a minority group of people, because of WHO they are, not what they believe. I think the distinction is an important one. What you believe is a conversation. It changes and evolves and grows. You can believe lots of different things and belong to many different philosophies of which people may agree or disagree. Who you are is just simply who you are and not really related to what you believe.

On the subject of spending v cuts, it's naive to believe that the way out of a recession requires only one or the other. Spending cuts must be in areas that don't damage parts of the economy that may stimulate growth or, in a developed society, disadvantage more than necessary its vulnerable members. Spending must be focussed on projects that will create work. It's working people as a group who spend rather than the very wealthy.

Borrowing money that can never be paid back to stimulate growth is not the answer. Sure we can borrow more and stimulate a little more, but where will we be in another 10 years. That is not you. This is us. Without massive inflation that hurts everyone, we will be saddled with ever growing maintenance on a debt that will eventually sink our economy. If you remove all discretionary spending from our budget, we will still have a deficit. That means if all we do is pay maintenance on our debt, social security and medicare, we will still have a deficit.
