Political Ramblings

As I've told my wife. It's nothing to get worked up about. They'll keep raising the debt limit and spending well beyond the point of sustainability. All we need to do is focus on better ways to become self sufficient and able to provide for ourselves with our garden and livestock.

From the BYC rules:

Would be nice to have ONE... SINGLE... PLACE to go without having to see political discussions. There are lots of places on the net for that, FB, Twitter, etc, etc, etc. Backyard Chickens.com used to be much more homey, I'm told. Sounded nice to me.
Some of us don't go to social networking sites for many reasons.

Well we are all entitled to our opinions and the right to express those opinions. Just don't be mad at me or other people when they do not agree with you.

I see where the petition for a peaceful withdrawl of Texas from the Union of the United State of America has achieve a total of over 80,000 signatures. This surely indicates that there is a tremendous divide in our society.

"Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it's citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government."

This issue will not go away. I have a suspicion that a good many other states will follow suit.
Interesting. There are many of us that hope that the State of Illinois will also secede from The State of Chicago.

What you'll find in many of the people who sign these petitions is that they've become tired of large population centers dictating everything in the state. I lived in downstate Illinois for almost all of my adult life. There are 2 Illinois, one is downstate and the other is Chicago. State politics there are ruled by Chicago. Pennsylvania has Philadelphia as their example. It is stated that all you need to do to win Pennsylvania is carry the 4 counties around Philly.

These are interesting times and the divisions need to be addressed.
Yep.

It is not just the Democrats, that I can tell you. The Federal Reserve has bipartisan support.

The Treasury Department asks the Fed to buy the bonds. Does it ever say no? Who controls the Treasury now? As it is now, the Treasury Department sells dubious bonds to the Fed in exchange for a bunch of depreciating currency. I think it was better when we were selling this scam to the Chinese and Arabs. Now we are just cheating ourselves.

It's not about making poor people rich. There will always be poor people. Society needs poor people. It is about keeping the wealth distribution - and with that also the political power and influence distribution - at least somewhat reasonable. At the moment in the US poor people are getting poorer and rich people are getting richer and this widening gap is really what the problem is.

I personally do not think it is reasonable that with tax breaks, poor people pay a higher percentage of their income than rich people, who in some cases make more money than they can really ever spend in a life time.

The top 5% of earners control 33% of the nation's wealth & pay 57% of all income taxes paid. Meanwhile 47% of Americans pay no income tax at all. How then do "poor people pay a higher percentage of their income than rich people. We have a graduated tax system & higher earners pay higher percentages. It's a shame that people don't use facts to form their opinioins.

The goal of certain political groups is not equal prosperity, but equal poverty. It is like a bucket of crabs. When one climbs up and is about to escape, the rest pull it back down. Those who cannot create must destroy.
