Eldest:8 years, 5 months.And still laying!
What breed is still laying at 8? Probably just a very special hen but that's amazing!

I slaughter old hens and extra cockerels every year as part of replenishing laying production.A whole chicken don't cost but 2-3$ these days @ the grocer

Has nothing to do with the cost of grocery whole fryer....and actually the last one I bought was between $5-6.
Probably cost me about $3 to grow them from chicks.You're also a northerner, complete opposite sides of the states and prices on everything. And I know, just saying ones cheaper then the other.
How's the cockerels taste? What month do you eat them at and I assume it's best for chicken tenders?
