I decided to run a poll to practice for when I will need to poll BYC users to judge my Blue Chicken Contest!!!

So, out of sheer curiosity, where have you most often obtained your birds? Inquiring minds want to know!

From several places:
1) Our local TSC
2) Chicken swaps held at our local TSC
3) Hatcheries -- but we only did that once or twice.
4) Fertile eggs, given or sold to us by acquaintances

Wow! What a fast response! Thanks, guys!

Try the poll buttons, too, and let me know if it works!

Anyone else?

I usually get mine from livestock auctions. Hens are cheap 5-8$ and around here they are usually in good health.
Friends also sometimes sell me hens or some people just give me chickens for free.

Very interesting! So far, it seems hatcheries or picking up birds from nearby breeders are the most popular choices. I hadn't heard of the poultry auction source, but that is a great idea!
