I took some new pictures of everyone this morning.
The general chaos moments after everyone was let out this morning....

Some of the juveniles I hatched out of Kawonu's eggs and got from Celtic, who hatched them from Kawonu's eggs, along with my juvenile production Toulouse goose.

Another shot of some of the geese on the pond this morning.

Your pond looks so pretty!! I dont like how the water in mine looks so dark

. Are they munching on food in the first picture?

Thanks. Yes, food and water. I have a covered feeder and several smaller bowls spread around the ponds, so that nobody can hog the food. I use the buckets my goat minerals come in for their water and have those scattered around the property as well.

Thanks Pete: I really love them. This will be my first season breeding toward the standard of perfection and I am really excited about it! My husband is in the process of building me more housing for the breeding pairs: I will have 6 breeding pens in the new barn, and two in one of the coops, so can keep at least 8 pairs. My Toulouse will have an area in my second waterfowl coop so I can keep them separate during breeding season.

It sounds like a great plan and with those numbers Im sure you'll have a good breeding season. Having those numbers in pairs will allow you to be selective in choosing the very best offspring. Your Poms are already lovely and Im sure you'll be breeding some stunners next year. The Buff Poms are very attractive and I'd love some but I do have to say NO to myself from time to time

Thanks Pete. Personally, I never say no to myself about new waterfowl.....that is my husband's job and he does it quite well.

I really hope to get some good goslings this spring. Hopefully, I do a good job when I pair them off next weekend.

The decisions about who gets put with whom have been made for a couple weeks, now I just need to get the breeding pens finished this weekend and get it done.

When it comes time to cull, it will be hard to part with anybody, but if I want them to be correct it has to be done. I keep asking to dig yet another pond and set up another pasture for a small pet flock, but that will take a couple years of suggesting to make that happen; especially after the big expenditure on the new barn we are building. We are putting up a 16 wide by 28 deep barn for turkeys and geese and my new feed room.

Sounds like you're well ahead with your breeding plans. Careful consideration of your plans will usually produce results - you only get out what you're prepared ti put in. You sound like you have a busy time ahead but i like the sound of your plans for the new barn.

I do have to say NO sometimes as we do raise other animals and still rearing a baby Macaw we hatched in the Spring. Add to that and I also have 2 small children. It does keep me busy!

Hi All, I am the proud new owner of some geese that I belive might be Pomeranians (fingers crossed) - they might be pilgrims as the two adult drakes are pure white, but if they are then I have all female goslings so I don't think I can complain. They get to live in my chook pen until their enclosure is finished but once they know where home is will be allowed to free range.

I have enjoyed reading all your stories and hope to hear more in the future.

Shetland geese are auto-sexing like that. The males, (ganders) are completely white, while the females are white with gray markings on the wings and head.

That is a nice little gaggle of geese you purchased! Welcome to the thread and wonderful world of being owned by geese!
