Pond or pool??

I was wondering if anyone knew why the wild duck and ducklings that I now have in my garden prefer the swimming pool to the natural pond I have in my garden?

The pond has plenty newts, frogs and spawn & insects while the pool has none.
I have been putting their food bowls at the pond and they all go over there to eat from

mother duck has had a dip in the pond but they always hurry off back to the pool area!
I’m not feeding them so much they have no need to forage because I see them on food hunts quite often!
They can’t get a lot around my pool though which is concrete paved whereas the pond is surrounded by grass too.

Most ducks are going to want to see their surroundings and if there is tall grass/brush around the pond she may feel a predator may be lurking in the midst. Ducks are smart birds, less likely to have a predator close to your house than in a natural pond setting.
