Unfortunately, with the economy being as it is, we are finding more animals in our back yards. With people loosing there farms and homes they are dropping them off at homes and farms in the hopes that we will embrace them.

I used to fill anger at this practice until my vet informed me on just how big a problem this has become because of our economy.

There just not dropping them off anymore because the cute little baby has grown up or the kids have lost interest or they can't get through the baby stage.

It's because they are loosing there places they love and have to go live in an apartment or with a relative.

I count my blessing every day that we still have our place. Part of the reason we do is because we live with way more "Stuff" then we did a few years ago.

When one of these creatures cross our path (I have to say it never was a swan) I look at the situation totally different. I do feel there is a limit...just have not reached it...Good Luck with your beauty

When I got my swans last year, the one took off, I found it 2 miles down the road, it wasnt easy nor fun trying to catch it, but I caught it and brought it back home. I ended up ropeing it. I had been leaving them out of their fenced in area and they both wondered off, I was able to turn them around and walk them back home. I dont let them out anymore. My hen is pioned[?] but the male isnt, he will wonder off any chance he gets, she will stay home. This is my frist ever having swans, so Im learning as I go. They havent started to nest yet, hoping and praying that they do, cause I want some babies. The male has been getting very aggressive, he will get between you and the hen, he wont let no one near her, he gets all fluffed up and make all kinds of nioses and will follow you everywhere you go. He hasnt done anything to me yet, but he has charged my better half and has even smacked my better half with his wings. We dont turn our backs to him nor do we let strangers get in their pen. I know what it is like to have a good floggen from a goose, I dont really want to see or feel one from a swan. Good luck to ya with the swan............

Sad news - something got him last night. We found him this morning. That's the big problem with dumped animals, you just aren't prepared to care for them. All my other birds get locked up at night but we weren't prepared to house a swan. It was such a shame!

well atleast there are safe places to dump babies now..... in the bc times in some civilizations, if a family that wanted a boy and got a girl, they would drop the baby off in the hills to die

I'm so sorry about the loss. I hope this isn't the first one for you....they hurt the heart the most.

Because this one was probable dropped off I'm sure your feeling a bit of frustration with the drive by people now that this has happened...I would.....but what can we do???
